Westminster Cleaners Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Westminster Cleaners in respect of the financial year ending 31 December 2026. It sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our own operations and in our supply chains. Westminster Cleaners is committed to conducting business ethically, with integrity, and with respect for the dignity and rights of every individual.
Our Organisation and Supply Chains
Westminster Cleaners provides professional cleaning and related services to commercial and residential clients. Our activities rely on a workforce that includes directly employed staff and approved contractors. Our supply chains primarily involve the sourcing of cleaning products, equipment, uniforms, facilities services, and specialist subcontracted labour.
We recognise that risks of modern slavery can arise in labour-intensive services, in the manufacture and distribution of cleaning products and equipment, and in subcontracted operations. We are committed to identifying, assessing, and addressing these risks on an ongoing basis.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery
Westminster Cleaners has a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery and human trafficking. This includes forced labour, bonded labour, servitude, debt bondage, child labour that is exploitative or illegal, and any form of coercion or control over workers. We do not tolerate abusive or exploitative working practices in our own operations or in those of our suppliers or contractors.
Our zero-tolerance stance is embedded in our internal policies, codes of conduct, recruitment procedures, and supplier requirements. All managers are responsible for promoting this policy and ensuring that their teams understand and apply it in day-to-day decisions and activities.
Supplier Standards and Audits
We expect all suppliers, contractors, and business partners to share our commitment to preventing modern slavery. As part of our supplier onboarding and ongoing management, we seek to ensure that:
Suppliers acknowledge and adhere to our ethical standards, including explicit commitments regarding modern slavery. Where appropriate, contractual terms include obligations relating to labour standards, working conditions, and the prohibition of forced or trafficked labour. Suppliers maintain transparent records relating to employment practices, working hours, pay, and worker welfare.
We conduct risk-based supplier assessments, focusing particular attention on higher-risk categories such as outsourced cleaning labour, agency labour providers, and manufacturers of uniforms or equipment located in higher-risk regions. Depending on the assessed risk, we may undertake audits, request self-assessment questionnaires, or require evidence of compliance with relevant labour and human rights standards. Where non-compliance or areas of concern are identified, we expect timely remediation and reserve the right to terminate relationships where serious or persistent breaches occur.
Reporting Channels and Escalation
Westminster Cleaners encourages all employees, contractors, and other stakeholders to raise concerns about any suspected instance of modern slavery or human trafficking. Concerns can be reported through internal reporting routes, including line managers or senior management. Anonymous reporting is respected where possible, and all concerns will be taken seriously, investigated promptly, and addressed appropriately.
We are committed to ensuring that no person who raises a concern in good faith suffers any form of retaliation or detriment. We also expect our suppliers to implement their own robust reporting mechanisms and to inform us without delay if any modern slavery issues are identified in their operations or supply chains.
Training, Awareness, and Continuous Improvement
We are working to raise awareness of modern slavery risks throughout Westminster Cleaners. Relevant employees, especially those involved in recruitment, procurement, and supplier management, receive guidance to help them recognise warning signs of exploitation and understand how to respond. We continue to review our internal procedures to improve our ability to prevent, detect, and respond to modern slavery risks.
Annual Review and Approval
This Modern Slavery Statement will be reviewed at least annually and updated where necessary to reflect the progress of our actions, changes in our operations, and evolving best practice. As part of the annual review, we will evaluate the effectiveness of our policies, audits, training, and reporting channels, and we will set priorities for further improvement.
This Statement has been approved by the leadership of Westminster Cleaners, who are responsible for ensuring that the commitments described are implemented and monitored across the organisation.
